Color Blocked Fleece Mantel / Color blocked Fleece Coat, Burda 6987 Hack

Mit diesem Mantel nehme ich am  Color Blocking Wettbewerb 2019 von Sewing Pattern Review teil.

This coat is my entry for the color blocking contest 2019 of Sewing Pattern Review.

Der Mantel Burda 6987 bietet 2 Ausführungen,  entweder mit Stehkragen oder in reduzierter Duffle-Optik mit großer Kapuze. 

Das Schnittmuster kommt in Grösse 36 - 50 (EU), 10 - 24 (US) 

The Burda coat 6987 has two options: either with standing collar or in reduced duffle-optics with large hood.

The pattern comes in sizes 36 - 50 (EU), 10 - 24 (US)

Ich habe das Schnittmuster als Basis verwendet, da mir die Passform des Mantels, besonders an den Schultern, gefällt. Ich mag Brustabnäher und die Teilung in der Taille ist ideal für Color Blocking. Besonders gut gefällt mir die Optik des Einknopfverschlusses an der Taille und des Schalkragens mit Kapuze. 

Der Schnitt ist für die Verwendung von Wolle oder Imitat-Leder empfohlen.
Ich habe einen Polyster-Stoff mit einer Fleece-Seite in ocker und einer Strick-Seite in schwarz-melange verwendet

I chose the pattern as a base, because I like the fitted look of the coat, especially at the shoulders. I like to have bust darts and the separation at the waistline encouraged color blocking. I especially like the look of the one button closure at the waistline and the shawl collar with hood.

  
It's recommended to use wool, garnished fabric or faux leather, I used a double sided polyster fabric with a fleece side in yellow and a knit side in black melange. 

Die Anleitung habe ich nicht beachtet, da ich verschiedene Änderungen im Verlauf der Planungs- und Nähprozesses vorgenommen habe.  

I didn't follow the instructions, since I made some changes during the planning and sewing prozess. 


    
Um mehr vom Color Blocking zu zeigen, habe ich die Kapuze weggelassen (ich mag Kapuzen nicht besonders) und anstelle einen größeren Schalkragen von einem Bademantel-Schnittmuster von 1986 (ähnlich wie bei Burda 6740) angefertigt. Das Rückenteil habe ich im Stoffbruch zugeschnitten,  und den Ärmel auch in 2 Farbblöcke unterteilt. 


To display more of the color blocking, I omitted the hood (I'm not a fan of hoods) and made a bigger shawl collar instead, using a bathrobe pattern from 1986 (similar to Burda 6740). I cut the back on the fold and I cut the sleeve in half to add color blocking as well.

 

Gemäss meinen Maßen brauche ich eine Größe 52/54. Man sagt, dass Burda eher gross ausfällt, deshalb habe ich gehofft, dass ich in die größte Größe 50 passe oder zumindest mit einer FBA davonkomme. Zuerst habe ich ein Muslin genäht. Die Größe 50 war ohne FBA perfekt. Ich habe nur den Brustabnäher um 3 cm verlängert, die Schulter und den Armausschnitt um 1 cm verschmälert und die Höhe der Armkugel um 3 cm reduziert, eine Änderung, die ich ziemlich oft machen muss. Ich habe den Mantel Ansicht A um 4 cm gekürzt.

According to my measurements I need a size 52/54. Burda is said to be on the big side, so I hoped, that I would fit into the biggest size 50 or at least get away with an FBA. I did a muslin first. Size 50 was perfect without FBA. I only elongated the bust dart  by 3 cm, took away 1 cm from the shoulder and the armhole and lowered the sleeve cap height by 3 cm, an alteration I need to do quite often. I shortened the coat view A by 4 cm.

Die Taschen und das Futter habe ich weggelassen und den Innenkragen aus dem gleichen Stoff genäht. Auch auf die Bügeleinlage und das Volumenvlies habe ich verzichtet. 

Da ich nur eine normale Nähmaschine habe, habe ich die Nahtkanten unversäubert gelassen. 

I didn't do the pockets and the lining, I only did the inner collar in the same fabric. I didn't use interfacing and batting.

Because I only have a regular sewing maschine I left the seam edges raw.





Da ich das Futter weggelassen habe, mussten die Säume und der innere Kragen von Hand genäht werden. Leider musste ich feststellen, dass man den Abdruck des Hohlsaum-Stiches auf der gelben Vorderseite sieht. Im Internet habe ich dann den Hexenstich gefunden. Damit ist die Naht unsichtbar.

Due to omitting the lining I needed to handstitch the inner collar to the outer fabric. I first did a slipstich, but it showed on the yellow side of the fabric. I got some information on the internet and did a Herringbone catch stitch for the first time. It's almost invisible now.

Anstatt nur einen Knopf an der Taille und einen am Ausschnitt zu verwenden, habe ich 4 Metall-Verschlüsse im Design chinesischer Froschknöpfe verwendet. Sie geben mir die Möglichkeit von 4 versch. Looks, je nachdem, wie viele Knöpfe geschlossen sind und ich konnte vermeiden, Knopflöcher im Kragen zu haben.

 

















Instead of using just one button at the waist and one at the neckline, I used 4 metal fasteners in the style of Chinese frog buttons. That gives me the possiblility to create 4 different looks, depending on how many buttons are closed and I was able to avoid having button holes in the collar.

Das Nähen war einfach, mit Futter und Taschen wäre es schwieriger gewesen. 

The sewing was quite easy, it would have been more difficult with the lining and the pockets.
  

Fazit: 

Das Schnittmuster als PDF enthält 87 Seiten. Stellen Sie sicher, dass Sie nur die Teile drucken, die Sie für Ansicht A oder B benötigen. Übersicht A befindet sich auf Seite 1, Übersicht B (mit der Masstabelle) befindet sich auf Seite 47. Leider gibt es keine Liste, die Ihnen sagt: Für Modell A müssen Sie Seiten xxx drucken. Sie müssen alle Seiten vor dem Kleben zuschneiden, daher ist es wahrscheinlich einfacher, die gedruckte Version zu kaufen und sie abzupausen. 

Wenn die Fertigmasse nicht angegeben sind, unbedingt vor der Grössenwahl das Schnittmuster ausmessen.

Ich mag den Mantel. Er ist nicht sehr warm, da er aus Polyester besteht und nicht gefüttert ist. Ich werde ihn tragen, wenn ich nur für kurze Zeit draußen bin oder im Frühling und Herbst. Ich könnte ich mir gut vorstellen, dass es noch eine längere Version aus Wolle mit Futter geben wird. Jetzt, wo ich das Schnittmuster an meine Masse angepasst habe, wird der Mantel schneller zu nähen sein.

Conclusion:
When you buy the pattern as a PDF you receive 87 pages. Make sure to only print the pieces you need for either view A or B. Overview A is on page 1, Overview B (with the measurement chart) is on page 47. Unfortunately there isn't a list which tells you: for Model A you need to print pages xxx. You need to cut all the pages, so probably it's easier to buy the printed version and trace it.

If finished measurements are not given, make sure to measure the pattern before choosing the size.

I like the coat. It's not very warm, since it's made of polyester and not lined. I'm going to wear it, when I'm outside for only a short time or in spring and autumn. I could imagine, that there is going to be a longer version in wool with lining. Now that I have adjusted the pattern to my measurements, I would be able to progress much faster.
